Volunteering In Tanzania

Better World Volunteers

With its iconic snow-capped peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti’s herds of wildebeests and gazelles, and the enchanting spices and crystal water of Zanzibar, Tanzania captivates the imagination. While emerging as a tourist destination, Tanzania remains predominantly rural and agricultural, facing challenges in enhancing basic infrastructure, and expanding educational and healthcare systems. Our volunteers in Tanzania contribute significantly to improving the lives of its people through dedicated hard work, fostering a commitment to shape a brighter future for this remarkable country.

Location

Nestled in the mountainous region of northern Tanzania, the city of Arusha lies beneath the majestic Mount Meru. Arusha has transformed into a vibrant city and a popular launch pad for expeditions to Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro. Not only a thriving urban center, but Arusha also holds strategic importance as the headquarters of the East African Community, uniting Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. The surrounding countryside cultivates coffee, wheat, and maize, showcased in the bustling city marketplace. During leisure time, volunteers can savor the city’s diverse culinary offerings, featuring Tanzanian, Ethiopian, Western, Indian, and Chinese cuisines. Weekends present opportunities to explore the region’s natural wonders or embark on a journey to the storied island city of Zanzibar.

Childcare and orphanage

Childcare and Teaching Program

In Tanzania, the profound impact of various illnesses has left a significant number of vulnerable and orphaned children. Our dedicated Childcare volunteers engage in various settings, including community centers, day care centers, orphanages, after-school programs, and feeding initiatives, offering crucial support to these vulnerable children. Led by local staff, volunteer tasks vary depending on the specific placement but generally involve providing personalized attention, mentoring, educational support for future success, and participating in activities like games, cooking, and cleaning.

Our teaching program at BWV is transformative opportunity for individuals passionate about education and making a positive impact. As a participant in our program, you will engage in meaningful teaching activities that contribute to the educational development of communities we serve. By joining our teaching program, you become an integral part of our commitment to empowering communities through education.

Volunteers like you play a pivotal role in enabling BWV to expand its reach and support more children. Daily tasks require attention, and there are ample opportunities for volunteers to contribute to creating exciting new programs for the kids. This program encourages self-reflection, urging you to share your knowledge while learning from others. The children centers, orphanages and school’s placement are situated near the town and outreach of Arusha in Tanzania.

Womens Empowerment And Development

Women’s Empowerment & Development

At Better World Volunteers, our Women’s Development volunteers in Tanzania collaborate with a local non-profit organization dedicated to teaching women the art of crafting items such as clothes, beads, souvenirs, and household goods, with the aim of selling them on the international market.

These groups of women often find themselves widowed or caring for the children of deceased relatives, facing challenges in the absence of education and guidance. Volunteers in this project play a crucial role in providing education, assisting in the preparation of proposals for microfinance projects to foster women’s self-sufficiency, and supporting local orphans. This support extends beyond financial aid, encompassing access to free education and raising awareness about vital health issues.

Volunteers contribute to empowering disadvantaged women, instilling in them the strength and courage to become entrepreneurs. The program is crafted to encourage self-sufficiency, particularly for women who may have been victims of human trafficking, domestic abuse, or disownment due to cultural taboos, leading them to raise their families as single mothers. Through targeted education, these women gain skills in finance, business operations, and overall business acumen.

Music and Sport

TATA-Children is dedicated to nurturing, empowering, and educating talented children. Presently, we conduct music classes at different schools such as Good Hope Primary School and many more, providing children with diverse musical tools for self-expression through voice, songs, poems, dancing, and instrument training.

Our vision encompasses reaching the lives of numerous talented children who currently lack access to education and support for their innate abilities. We are actively seeking volunteers to contribute by providing essential sports coaching to children in areas where these services are presently unavailable.

Physical education not only fosters significant health benefits but is also crucial for developing children’s skills, including teamwork and communication, contributing to their overall well-being. Sports opportunities in Arusha are limited, demanding creativity and enthusiasm to expand and enrich the offerings available to the local children and community participation
